Yes­ter­day I vis­ited Kula Yoga, a large yoga stu­dio in Man­hat­tan.  The entrance is deceiv­ing.  I didn’t see any sign.  It seemed like an entrance to an apart­ment above a store­front.  As we entered I was amazed to see 2 lines of peo­ple — one going up and one com­ing down — with a few breaks here and there.  We went up 3 flights of stairs to get to the room where the shoe rack was.  Then we back-tracked down nar­row hall­ways and stairs to a large room with huge win­dows on one side.  Wood ceil­ings and a brick wall added to the char­ac­ter of the place.

   With lit­tle more than one week left here in Hal­i­fax and the Mar­itimes of Canada, we are try­ing to fit in as much book dis­tri­b­u­tion and chant­ing as we can, weather per­mit­ting. Aside from the weather, the only other thing that tends to get in the way is the mind.

My friend and medi­a­tor of tonights’ NYU dis­cus­sion told a story to illus­trate steadi­ness in spir­i­tual life.  He was walk­ing with a senior monk in India who pointed to the stars and said, “see how they’re fixed and shin­ing?  That is sthita or steady.

Yes­ter­day I went along with my friends to NYU to help them with their cook­ing class.  We had around 40 stu­dents.  Chris demon­strated Gujarati Squash.  Every­one heard, watched and even­tu­ally tasted!

This after­noon we went to Cole Har­bour Dis­trict High School to do a pro­gram with a friend of ours who we met last spring. She is a high school teacher, and is pio­neer­ing a yoga pro­gram within the Hal­i­fax Regional School Board.
